Learning to pray again
When prayer feels dry, you are not failing. You may be being invited into honesty.

There are seasons when prayer feels as natural as breathing, and seasons when every word feels heavy. Many faithful people know both.
If prayer has grown difficult, start by telling God the truth about that. Scripture is full of prayers that begin with confusion, grief, and silence. God is not waiting for polished language. God is near to the honest heart.
One practice we recommend is breath prayer: a short phrase on the inhale and a short phrase on the exhale. For example, breathe in 'Lord Jesus,' and breathe out 'have mercy.' Repeat it while walking, washing dishes, or sitting in the sanctuary before service.
You do not have to feel spiritual to pray. You only need to come. Over time, the coming itself becomes a form of trust.
